Mixologist’s Guide to Breeders’ Cup Cocktails

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park are less than two weeks away, and preparations are on hand for a weekend of elite international horse racing, fine dining and social events galore.

The picturesque facility at Santa Anita Park has diverse array of dining, drinking, and entertainment spaces, and Breeders’ Cup officials have introduced six signature cocktails to match. Each of these drinks features either Maker’s Mark Bourbon or Tito’s Handmade Vodka, two Breeders’ Cup sponsors for 2016.

The drinks are already available at Santa Anita’s FrontRunner restaurant and will be offered at various locations throughout the track during Breeders’ Cup weekend. Peruse these cocktail recipes in advance of your trip to Santa Anita – or flaunt your mixing skills and prepare them for your own Breeders’ Cup party.

Ingredients:

1 ¼ ounces Tito’s Handmade Vodka

¾ ounces St. Germain Eiderflower liqueur

Top with grapefruit juice

Lemon slice garnish

Method:

Combine Tito’s Handmade Vodka, St. Germain, and juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with lemon slice.

Ingredients:

1 ¼ ounces Tito’s Handmade Vodka

½ ounce fresh squeezed lime juice

Top with ginger beer

Lime wedge and mint sprig garnish

Method:

Combine all ingredients into glass. Fill with crushed ice. Garnish with lime wedge and mint sprig.

Across the Board

Ingredients:

1 ¼ ounces Tito’s Handmade Vodka

½ ounce orange liqueur

Top with equal parts (1:1 ratio) blueberry ginger blend and lemonade

Lemon slice garnish

Method:

Hard shake ingredients and pour in glass over ice. Garnish with lemon slice.

Ingredients:

1 ¼ ounces Maker’s Mark Bourbon

½ ounce orange liqueur

Top with ginger ale

Orange slice garnish

Method:

Build over ice. Add splash of orange liqueur, top with ginger ale. Garnish with orange slice.

Ingredients:

1 ¼ ounces Maker’s Mark Bourbon

¾ ounces peach schnapps liqueur

Top with unsweetened iced tea

Lemon squeeze garnish

Method:

Build over ice in tall glass. Add Maker’s Mark and peach liqueur, top with unsweetened tea. Squeeze lemon over cocktail.

Ingredients:

2 ounces Maker’s 46 Bourbon

Bitters over sugar cube

Splash of soda water

Orange slice and cocktail cherry garnish

Method:

Saturate sugar cube with bitters. Add splash of soda water. Fill glass with ice and Maker’s 46 Bourbon. Stir ingredients. Garnish with orange slice and cocktail cherry.
