Your Keurig will make beer soon, which is pretty genius

HOLD. THE. PHONE. Keurig is working with international beer giants Anheuser-Busch InBev to bring you a home beer brewer machine and this is not a drill. Obviously, we mainly know Keurig for the super-convenient single-serve coffee machines found in hotel libraries worldwide. (Also very cool: the Keurig cold and flu pods sold by CVS.) But we have to wonder what brave new world of home brewing this latest development will introduce. Is this the next-best thing to a beer pipeline for your home? We’re thinking yes. And it’s not just beer: the new Keurig might replace your entire home bar by producing spirits, mixers and cocktails. Maybe the future isn’t so scary.

If they can pull it off, it’s a win-win for both companies. For AB InBev, the home brewing device will provide a direct line to consumers who are drinking at home more. The “world’s largest brewer” is responsible for some of your favorite big-name (and low-cost) brands, like Stella Artois, Budweiser and Corona. With Americans spending more on fancy craft beer brands, it’s pretty clear why AB InBev is thinking outside the box about how to stay relevant. After all, this is the company that helped develop the refrigerated rail car – all for the sake of beer.

We’re just hoping that the new Keurig device lets us mix up our own craft beers, as well as brewing our old faves. (Hint hint: women consume our fair share of craft brews and we’re an awesome target market.) Imagine having the power to mix up your very own pop tart beer. Or, you know, whatever weird and wonderful flavor combination tickles your fancy. All we can say is, this is one release we’re eagerly awaiting. Even if the beer isn’t as good as we’re dreaming it will be, at least we can use the stuff to get shinier hair…there are so many perks to this dream machine.
